Description

Ashwagandha means “smell of the horse” in Sanskrit, which refers to its distinct smell and its ability to enhance strength. Ashwagandha is also called Indian Ginseng and Winter Cherry. Ashwagandha helps the body deal with stress, making it an adaptogen. And it contains a very high amount of withanolides, which fight tumour growth and inflammation. Ashwagandha also provides many other benefits for your body and brain. It’s known to lower blood sugar, reduce stress levels, help with anxiety or depression. It also improves brain function and concentration. Ashwagandha contains high quantities of Withaferin, a compound that causes apoptosis. Apoptosis is the “programmed death” in cancer cells. It also stops new cancers cells from forming by disrupting their ability to function.

Pharmacology: Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) “Indian Winter cherry” or “Indian Ginseng”. It is one of the most important herb of Ayurveda (the traditional system of medicine in India) used for millennia as a Rasayana for its wide ranging health benefits. Rasayana is an herbal or metallic preparation that promotes a youthful state of physical and mental health and expands happiness. Among the ayurvedic Rasayana herbs, Ashwagandha holds the most prominent place. It is known as “Sattvic Kapha Rasayana” Herb Most of the Rasayana herbs are adaptogen / anti-stress agents. Ashwagandha is commonly available as a churna, a fine sieved powder that can be mixed with water, ghee (clarified butter) or honey. When encounter a perceived Sleep problems, autoimmune diseases, Digestive problems, Heart disease, Reproductive issues, thinking and memory problems. The hypothalamus, a tiny region at your brain’s base, sets off an alarm system in your body. Through a combination of nerve and hormonal signals, this system prompts your adrenal glands, located atop your kidneys, to release a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline increases the heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and boosts energy supplies. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain’s use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues. Once a perceived threat has passed, hormone levels return to normal. As adrenaline and cortisol levels drop, your heart rate and blood pressure return to baseline levels, and other systems resume their regular activities.

The long-term activation of the stress response system and the overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones that follow can disrupt almost all your body’s processes. Caution: If you are taking medication for diabetes and high blood pressure be careful. It may enhance the effect, blood pressure may fall drastically and blood sugar level may go too slow than normal.

Route of Administration: Oral route

Side Effects: No side effect but over dose intake might cause diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, drowsiness and sometime abdominal pain.

Adverse effects: Not reported

Drug interaction: Ashwagandha capsules may render some medication ineffective. It may suppress the effect of cyclosporine and corticosteroids.

Fertility, pregnancy and lactation: An Ashwagandha capsule does not contain any ingredients that can harm in fertility, pregnancy and lactation but it should be taken according to the suggestion of physician.

Overdose: Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Taking extra medication won’t help your symptoms; instead, it could lead to other side effects.  .

Storage: Store in a dry and cool place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep medicine out of reach of children.
